SURREY(NEWS1130)- Infection control measures are being taken in Surrey Memorial Hospital after an outbreak of the Norwalk virus.
Kathleen Butler with the Fraser Health Authority says one unit is being sterilized and health care workers are quarantining any patients that have the disease.
“It is certainly something that happens and we have implemented the infection control measures so it doesn’t spread throughout the hospital,” she says.
Butler didn’t have the details as to how many people at Surrey memorial may have become ill. “It is certainly something that happens and as I saw we go right into the infection control measures and closing it so it doesn’t spread throughout the hospital,” she adds.
Symptoms of Norwalk or the Norovirus include forceful vomiting, watery diarrhea and stomach pain.
